Hollister is historically one of the most important rallies since it is the birthplace of the "American Biker".

The Hollister incident in 1947 inspired the classic Marlon Brando film The Wild One which cemented the "Biker" image in the US. Although it was more just bikers being bikers, the racing in the streets, drinking, and biker fun got the police from the area in riot gear to Hollister. The people who were actually in Hollister in 1947 say that the media blew the incident out of proportion.
